Celestron astro fi 1308/27/2023 ![]() ![]() I feel that high theoretical magnification on the comparison chart above is misleading at best. On top of that it's highly distorted and almost impossible to photograph. I live in an area with little to no light noise and using a 2x barlow and 6mm lens from Celestron's lens kit that is all I can see. I also have had no luck seeing Venus in anything beyond a point of white light. There are other comments on the site about this, I haven't tried a solution someone proposed and haven't heard back from their technical support about it. I've bought the Celestron AC Adapter and continue to experience issues. I thought the wifi issue could be tied to using the battery pack in low temps and I can assure you it is not. But if I remove the "passive" antenna, the drop-outs return. I can now remain connected to the WiFi access-point of the telescope for hours. In my case, it was an almost cost-free, easy fix. I've noticed that other customers are citing the same phenomenon. We shall see how they ultimately remedy the matter. By so doing, the antenna would also become the "active" antenna, in lieu of "passive". I suggested the addition of an (invisible to the consumer) coating across the entire "inside" of the support-arm housing - using conductive paint, wired directly to the WiFi output. So, indeed, Celestron you do have a design flaw: due to the output strength of the the WiFi, and the fact that it tends to be somewhat directional (most of the signal, comes off the side where the WiFi "connecting/connected" symbol-light is positioned. The USB shielding acts as an absorptive, thus passive antenna - which thereby also adds a more "omni-directional" signal output. The problem is REAL! Thought about it for a day, then I provided my own "fix" for that annoyance - by adding a very simple "passive antenna" (I literally wrapped a 3' length USB extender cable around the support-arm, in 3 loops - then connected the male USB jack, to the female USB jack. I have been communicating with Celestron Tech Support in California. One gripe: the WiFi connection keeps dropping out (whether I am using an iPhone SE (7 series, IOS 11, current release), or iPad-Mini2 (iOS 9, current release) with the software app. Indeed, the optics and hardware are fine. ![]() To learn more about how and for what purposes Amazon uses personal information (such as Amazon Store order history), please visit our Privacy Notice.
